Iowa Football: Reece Vander Zee’s Last-Second TD Stuns No. 18 Michigan, Lifts No. 17 Hawkeyes to 20-19 Win

Hank Brown leads a 91-yard final drive and finds Vander Zee for a 16-yard touchdown as unbeaten Iowa escapes the Big House with a dramatic ranked road victory

ANN ARBOR, Mich. | Two seconds. Sixteen yards. One final chance.

Reece Vander Zee made it count.

Vander Zee caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Hank Brown on the final play Saturday, completing a 91-yard drive that lifted No. 17 Iowa to a stunning 20-19 victory over No. 18 Michigan before 111,126 fans at Michigan Stadium.

The Hawkeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) took possession at their own 9-yard line with 1:46 remaining and no margin for error.

Brown methodically moved Iowa down the field before the Hawkeyes faced fourth down from the Michigan 16 with two seconds remaining. With the game hanging on one snap, Brown lofted a pass toward the corner of the end zone.

Vander Zee hauled it in.

Game over.

The touchdown capped an 11-play, 91-yard drive and gave Iowa its first road victory over a ranked opponent since 2015.

“Everybody's going to remember the end of this one, rightfully so,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. “It really took the total effort.”

Brown completed 21 of 35 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns, both 16-yard strikes to Vander Zee in the fourth quarter.
