Michigan State Football Adds Two Friday Night Showdowns to 2026 Schedule, Including Primetime Clash With Oregon

Spartans continue dominant Friday-night opening tradition as FOX schedules high-stakes Big Ten matchup against Oregon in East Lansing

EAST LANSING, Mich. | Michigan State football is once again embracing the Friday night spotlight in 2026, announcing two marquee games under the lights at Spartan Stadium, including a nationally televised Big Ten showdown against Oregon.

The Spartans confirmed that their season and home opener against Toledo has been moved to Friday, Sept. 4, continuing one of college football’s most successful opening-night traditions. FOX Sports also revealed that Michigan State’s highly anticipated matchup with Oregon will air nationally on Friday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. ET as part of the network’s FOX College Football Friday package.

For Michigan State, Friday night football has become more than a scheduling quirk — it has become a winning formula.

The Spartans enter the 2026 season undefeated in home Friday-night season openers in the modern era, posting an impressive 11-0 record in East Lansing and 13-0 overall in Friday-night openers since 2011. The Toledo game will mark the 14th time since 2011 that Michigan State begins its season on a Friday night and the 12th occurrence in the past 16 seasons.

The opener against Toledo also revives a historic series that has been dormant for more than a century. The only previous meeting between the programs came on Oct. 25, 1925, when Michigan State dominated the Rockets 58-0 in East Lansing.
