Michael Thorbjornsen announced his arrival as golf's next rising star Sunday, delivering a career-defining performance at the 2026 Rocket Classic by firing a blistering 9-under 63 to capture his first PGA Tour victory at Detroit Golf Club.

The 24-year-old American erased a four-shot deficit entering the final round, finishing at 18-under-par 262 to defeat Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele by two strokes. The victory marks a pivotal moment in Thorbjornsen's young career, transforming him from a FedEx Cup Playoffs bubble player into one of the PGA Tour's fastest-rising talents.

His final-round 63 was not only the lowest score of the day but also the lowest round of his PGA Tour career.

Sunday Surge Changes Everything

Beginning the day four strokes behind 54-hole leader Davis Riley, Thorbjornsen wasted little time climbing the leaderboard.

In challenging conditions created by changing weather around Detroit Golf Club, players jostled for position throughout the afternoon. Schauffele mounted an early charge, Riley fought to maintain his lead, and several contenders briefly shared the top spot.

Thorbjornsen, however, separated himself when the tournament mattered most.
