Crimson Tide outscore opponents 17-0 as Kaitlyn Pallozzi strikes out 14, Mari Hubbard homers and Alabama's pitching staff dominates at Rhoads Stadium.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | Alabama softball continued its impressive fall exhibition schedule Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader with shutout victories over Jones College and West Alabama at Rhoads Stadium.
The Crimson Tide defeated Jones College 10-0 in a 10-inning contest before completing the sweep with a 7-0 victory over West Alabama, combining strong pitching, timely hitting and error-free defensive play.
Alabama's pitching staff held both opponents scoreless across 17 innings, highlighted by Kaitlyn Pallozzi's dominant performance against West Alabama. Pallozzi struck out 14 batters and allowed just two hits in a seven-inning complete-game shutout.
Against Jones College, Kailey Plumlee worked six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts before Vic Moten added four shutout innings in relief, striking out four.
Alabama coach Patrick Murphy praised his team's execution on both sides of the ball.
"The defense was awesome," Murphy said. "We've only had one error so far this fall, so I'll take that any day."
The Crimson Tide established control early against Jones College when Torynn Slaughter delivered an RBI single in the first inning. Alabama added two runs in the second, including a solo home run from Mari Hubbard, before Paige Stanfield's RBI double made it 4-0 in the third.
Alabama continued building its lead with contributions throughout the lineup. Audrey Vandagriff drove in a run with an infield single in the seventh, while Jena Young capped the scoring with an RBI triple off the right-center field wall in the ninth.
Slaughter, Stanfield, Vandagriff and Young each recorded multiple hits, while seven Alabama players drove in runs.
The Crimson Tide carried that momentum into the second game, scoring three runs in the opening inning against West Alabama.
Hubbard started the scoring with an RBI double down the left-field line, followed by a run-scoring groundout and Young's RBI single.
Brooke Wells delivered the biggest hit of the game in the second inning, driving in two runs with a triple to extend Alabama's lead to 5-0. The Crimson Tide added another run on a wild pitch before Karlee Ford's sacrifice fly in the fourth completed the scoring.
Ana Roman and Wells each finished 2 for 2, while Gerritt Griggs went 3 for 3 from the ninth spot in the batting order after collecting a hit and a walk against Jones College.
Murphy also credited Alabama's baserunning, particularly the contributions of Noelani Livingstone and Ava Briski, as the Crimson Tide continued preparing for the spring season.
Alabama's pitching depth and offensive balance were on display throughout the afternoon, with multiple players contributing to the team's 17-run performance.
The Crimson Tide will return to Rhoads Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 18, for a fall doubleheader against Mobile. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Central.
