Aztecs lead new Pac-12 rivals in individual Scholar All-America selections while extending their remarkable streak to 21 consecutive semesters as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team.
Success for San Diego State's swim and dive program extends far beyond the pool. The Aztecs reinforced their reputation as one of the nation's premier student-athlete programs after nine swimmers and divers earned 2025-26 CSCAA Scholar All-America honors, while the team also secured recognition as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team for an impressive 21st consecutive semester.
The announcement from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) highlights a program that has consistently paired elite athletic performance with academic excellence, setting the benchmark as San Diego State prepares for its new era in the Pac-12 Conference.
Nine Aztecs Receive National Academic Recognition
Leading the way was Moa Bergdahl, who earned First-Team CSCAA Scholar All-America honors after competing at the NCAA Championships.
Eight additional Aztecs received Second-Team Scholar All-America recognition:
- Kaydence Bispo
- Roni Black
- Isabella Gomez
- Sophia Hineline
- Keira Kuderka
- Alli Mann
- Reka Nyiradi
- Alina Skrocki
To earn Scholar All-America recognition, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA while also meeting rigorous national qualifying standards in competition.
The achievement underscores the program's commitment to balancing excellence in both academics and athletics.
Leading the New Pac-12
As San Diego State officially begins competition in the Pac-12, the Aztecs immediately established themselves as academic leaders within the conference.
Their nine individual Scholar All-America selections surpassed fellow new conference members:
- San Diego State — 9
- Fresno State — 8
- Washington State — 8
- Colorado State — 4
The accomplishment reflects the culture head coach and staff have built—one emphasizing discipline inside the classroom as much as inside the pool.
Program GPA Matches School Record
The team's academic success extended beyond individual honors.
San Diego State's 27 student-athletes combined for a remarkable 3.69 team GPA, tying a program record and earning CSCAA Scholar All-America Team recognition once again.
To qualify, programs must post a minimum cumulative team GPA of 3.0 during the semester.
Nationwide, the CSCAA honored:
- 714 swim and dive teams
- 418 colleges and universities
- More than 16,600 student-athletes
Among that elite company, San Diego State once again distinguished itself.
A Tradition of Academic Excellence
The latest honor continues one of the nation's longest-running streaks.
The Aztecs have now earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Team recognition for 21 consecutive semesters and 27 of the past 28 semesters dating back to the 2012-13 academic year.
That remarkable consistency reflects a culture where academic achievement is considered every bit as important as conference championships.
Champions in the Pool, Too
The classroom success follows another memorable competitive season.
San Diego State captured its fifth consecutive conference championship and 10th conference title since 2011, closing out its Mountain West era in dominant fashion before transitioning to the Pac-12.
The Aztecs also continued their impressive NCAA streak, qualifying at least one athlete to the NCAA Championships for the 17th straight season.
Graduates Moa Bergdahl and Abby Storm represented the program on college swimming's biggest stage, competing in multiple events at the national championships.
Meanwhile, diving coach Roland McDonald earned Mountain West Diving Coach of the Year honors for the third consecutive season and the fifth time during his tenure on The Mesa.
Building Momentum for the Pac-12 Era
With sustained competitive success, record-setting academic performance and national recognition across multiple fronts, San Diego State enters the Pac-12 positioned as one of the conference's model athletic programs.
As expectations rise in one of collegiate swimming's strongest conferences, the Aztecs have already demonstrated they possess the championship culture necessary to compete at the highest level—both academically and athletically.
