After a standout freshman campaign, Hailey Lucas brings a 2.53 ERA, 94 strikeouts, and three years of eligibility to Jamie Trachsel's rapidly reloaded Rebels roster.
OXFORD, Miss. | Ole Miss softball continues to reshape its roster for another run at SEC contention, adding one of the Missouri Valley Conference's most promising young pitchers.
Head coach Jamie Trachsel announced the signing of Hailey Lucas, a standout transfer from Southern Illinois, giving the Rebels another proven arm with three seasons of NCAA eligibility remaining.
Lucas arrives in Oxford after an impressive freshman season in which she emerged as the Salukis' ace, immediately establishing herself as one of the conference's top young pitchers.
Freshman Season Showcased Elite Potential
Lucas wasted little time making an impact during her first collegiate season.
The Palatine, Illinois, native led Southern Illinois with 116.0 innings pitched, finishing the year with:
- 9-7 overall record
- 2.53 ERA
- 94 strikeouts
- Only 28 walks
- Eight complete games
Her durability and command helped anchor a Southern Illinois pitching staff that finished with a 2.91 team ERA, while her 116 innings ranked 11th in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Those numbers immediately positioned Lucas among the conference's most reliable young pitchers and made her one of the most coveted arms in the NCAA transfer portal.
Dominated Ole Miss Before Joining the Rebels
Ironically, one of Lucas' signature performances came against the very program she now joins.
Facing Ole Miss during the 2026 season, Lucas threw 8.0 dominant innings, surrendering just three hits before allowing her first—and only—run in the ninth inning.
The outing demonstrated her ability to compete against SEC-caliber competition and likely reinforced Ole Miss' interest in bringing the talented right-hander to Oxford.
Now, instead of trying to defeat the Rebels, Lucas will be expected to help lead them back into postseason contention.
Transfer Portal Reload Continues
Lucas becomes the latest major addition for Trachsel during an aggressive offseason focused on strengthening the Rebels' roster through the transfer portal.
She joins:
- Lexie Hames (Pitcher, Clemson)
- Brie Howard (Outfielder, Austin Peay)
The experienced transfers will combine with **11 incoming freshmen**, creating one of the SEC's most intriguing roster overhauls entering the 2027 campaign.
The additions reflect Ole Miss' commitment to blending veteran collegiate experience with young talent as the program looks to climb the conference standings.
Building for Long-Term Success
With three seasons of eligibility remaining, Lucas represents more than an immediate upgrade.
She provides the Rebels with a long-term building block capable of anchoring the pitching staff for multiple seasons while developing under the SEC's highest level of competition.
Her combination of durability, strikeout ability, and control gives Ole Miss another dependable option in a league where elite pitching often determines postseason success.
If Lucas' freshman campaign is any indication, the Rebels may have landed one of the transfer portal's biggest pitching steals.
As Ole Miss prepares for the 2027 season, the addition of Lucas signals the program's determination to compete with the SEC's elite and return to championship contention.
