Record-breaking performances across softball, volleyball, tennis, baseball, and track power UC San Diego Tritons into postseason spotlight
LA JOLLA, Calif. | Dominance across multiple sports continues to define the spring surge for the UC San Diego Tritons, as a wave of standout performances headline the latest 2025–26 University Credit Union Athletes of the Week honors.
From clutch softball hitting to record-setting pitching and elite track times, UC San Diego’s top athletes are delivering at a championship-caliber level — and doing so across nearly every major program.
Womack Powers Softball Surge
Sophomore standout Samantha Womack led the charge on the diamond with a complete offensive display during a three-game series at CSUN. Womack recorded at least one hit in every game, finishing the weekend with five hits, five runs, and five RBIs.
Her consistency set the tone early, including a perfect 2-for-2 performance in the opener. She followed with a 2-for-3 outing that featured a double, three runs scored, and a walk, before closing the series with a home run and three RBIs in the finale. Womack’s production underscores the growing offensive firepower within UC San Diego softball heading into the postseason stretch.
Wurl Leads Volleyball with Historic All-Around Play
Senior setter Cameron Wurl delivered one of the most complete performances of the season in men’s volleyball, leading the Tritons to a sweep over No. 9-ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's volleyball in the opening round of the Big West Men's Volleyball Championship.
Wurl filled the stat sheet with 32 assists, 10.5 points, six blocks, five kills, three digs, and two service aces — setting new career highs in points and kills while matching previous bests in blocks and aces.
His dominance continued the previous week on Senior Night, where he posted a career-high 45 assists in another matchup against UC Santa Barbara, further cementing his role as the engine behind UC San Diego’s postseason push.
Tennis Excellence Anchored by Veteran and Freshman
Graduate student Hana Gamracy showcased consistency and leadership, winning both singles matches and contributing to a key doubles victory. Her straight-sets win against Northern Arizona Lumberjacks women's tennis and decisive conference play performance against UC Irvine Anteaters women's tennis highlight her veteran presence.
Meanwhile, freshman Olivia Allegre continues to emerge as a rising star. Competing at No. 1 singles, Allegre secured a gritty three-set win against No. 32-ranked UC Santa Barbara, demonstrating resilience and poise under pressure.
Murdock’s Record-Breaking Night Headlines Baseball
On the mound, right-hander Steele Murdock delivered a historic performance, striking out 17 batters in eight innings against UC Santa Barbara — a new program record and, at the time, the highest single-game strikeout total in Division I this season.
Murdock allowed just one run and no walks while retiring 10 of the final 11 batters via strikeout, showcasing elite command and dominance. His performance not only secured a key road win but also positioned him among the nation’s top pitchers.
Fellow pitcher Austin Bowker added to the Tritons’ pitching depth with 5.2 scoreless innings against Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors baseball, helping deliver the team’s first shutout of the season.
Northrop Rewrites the Record Books
In track and field, Sylvana Northrop turned in one of the most impressive performances of the season at the Triton Invitational. The graduate distance runner captured first place in the 5,000 meters with a stadium-record and personal-best time of 16:15.69 — currently leading the Big West Conference by over 30 seconds.
Northrop also set a school record in the 1,500 meters, clocking 4:20.69, further solidifying her as one of the premier distance runners in the conference.
Momentum Building Across Programs
As UC San Diego heads deeper into postseason competition across multiple sports, the consistency of these weekly honors reflects a broader trend — a department-wide surge fueled by elite individual performances and team success.
With records falling and postseason brackets looming, the Tritons are proving they are more than just contenders — they are building a culture of sustained excellence.
