Razorbacks standouts secure provisional draft rights as pro softball pipeline expands, with draft set for May 4 on ESPN2
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. | Two of the most decorated players in Arkansas Razorbacks softball history are one step closer to the professional ranks. Senior pitcher Robyn Herron and senior outfielder Reagan Johnson have been selected as provisional picks in the 2026 AUSL College Draft and named to the AUSL Reserve Athlete Pool, the league announced Sunday.
The designation gives AUSL franchises the rights to these players while offering immediate flexibility through the reserve system — a pathway that allows athletes to be called up during the season, particularly when rostered players compete internationally in events such as the Japan Diamond League.
Herron Cementing Legacy in the Circle
Herron leaves Arkansas as one of the most dominant pitchers in program history. Across 111 career appearances and 73 starts, the left-hander has compiled 52 wins, a 2.18 ERA, and 554 strikeouts — while holding opposing hitters to a program-record .180 batting average.
Her ability to dominate lineups has been a constant. Herron has recorded 16 career games with 10 or more strikeouts, tying a program record previously held by Mary Haff.
In 2026, she has elevated her performance even further, posting a 14-4 record with a 1.99 ERA and 144 strikeouts in just over 91 innings. Nationally, she ranks among the top pitchers in strikeouts per seven innings (5th), fewest hits allowed per seven innings (14th), and saves (15th), underscoring her versatility and elite command.
Johnson’s Historic Run at the Plate and in the Field
If Herron has dominated in the circle, Johnson has rewritten the record books at the plate. The senior center fielder is Arkansas’ all-time hits leader with 272 and ranks third in program history with 68 stolen bases.
This season, Johnson is hitting .331 with 48 hits, 50 runs scored, and 18 stolen bases, serving as the catalyst atop the Razorbacks’ lineup.
Defensively, she has been equally elite. Johnson owns a .988 career fielding percentage and is currently riding a 122-game errorless streak — the longest by an Arkansas outfielder since at least 2001. Her consistency in center field has made her one of the most reliable defenders in college softball.
AUSL Opportunity and Draft Outlook
The AUSL Reserve Pool represents a growing bridge between collegiate and professional softball, offering immediate opportunities for players to compete at the next level while maintaining roster flexibility for teams.
Herron and Johnson join teammate Dakota Kennedy, who previously earned an AUSL Golden Ticket earlier this month, signaling strong professional interest in Arkansas’ roster.
The 2026 AUSL College Draft is scheduled for May 4 at 6 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN2, placing a national spotlight on the next generation of pro softball talent.
Razorbacks Eye Strong Finish
Currently ranked No. 6/9 nationally, Arkansas (39-9, 13-8 SEC) will close out the regular season with a pivotal three-game road series against Texas Longhorns softball beginning April 30.
With postseason positioning on the line and professional futures coming into focus, the Razorbacks enter May with both urgency and momentum — led by two stars now firmly on the radar of the professional game.
