Crimson Tide pitching delivers 19th shutout of the season as Alabama surges alongside Oklahoma Sooners softball atop SEC standings
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | Championship-caliber teams don’t just win—they dominate. And this weekend at Rhoads Stadium, the Alabama Crimson Tide softball made that statement loud and clear.Alabama capped off a commanding series with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Kentucky Wildcats softball on Sunday, securing its second straight SEC series sweep and moving into a tie for first place in the conference standings.
At 42-4 overall and 15-3 in SEC play, the Crimson Tide continue to separate themselves as one of the most complete teams in college softball.
Pitching Sets the Tone
Freshman right-hander Kaitlyn Pallozzi (8-0) delivered in her first career SEC start, tossing 4.2 innings of three-hit softball to earn the win. She set the tone early, attacking the zone and keeping Kentucky’s offense off balance.
Reliever Jocelyn Briski closed the door, recording her second save of the season as the Tide pitching staff extended a remarkable trend:
- Zero walks allowed the entire series
- 19th shutout of the season
- Fourth SEC shutout
It was a clinic in command, efficiency, and postseason-ready pitching.
Head coach Patrick Murphy praised the young starter’s composure:
“Kaitlyn gave us exactly what we needed. That was a big-time start in a big-time moment.”
Offense Delivers Timely Production
While the pitching dominated, Alabama’s offense delivered just enough—and did so with precision.
Brooke Wells led the charge with two RBI doubles, both scoring leadoff sparkplug Alexis Pupillo, who reached base in all four plate appearances (three walks, one single).
Murphy called the duo a “deadly combination,” and the numbers backed it up.
Additional contributions came from:
- Marlie Giles: RBI single, 7-game hitting streak, 16-game on-base streak
- Salen Hawkins: RBI single to extend the lead
Scoring Summary
- 1st Inning: Wells RBI double (1-0)
- 2nd Inning: Wells RBI double (2-0), Giles RBI single (3-0)
- 4th Inning: Hawkins RBI single (4-0)
Clean, efficient, and timely—hallmarks of a team built for a deep postseason run.
SEC Statement Weekend
The sweep marks Alabama’s:
- Third SEC series sweep this season (most since 2021)
- Second consecutive SEC sweep
- Continued rise to co-leaders in the SEC standings
Meanwhile, Kentucky drops to 25-25 (1-20 SEC), unable to generate momentum against Alabama’s elite pitching rotation.
Bigger Picture: A Title Contender Emerging
With dominant pitching, disciplined at-bats, and depth across the lineup, Alabama is checking every box as the postseason approaches. The ability to control games without issuing walks—and to win with both power and situational hitting—positions the Tide as a legitimate Women’s College World Series contender.
And perhaps most importantly, they’re peaking at the right time.
