Raegen Beers, Aaliyah Chavez headline four-player surge as Sooners dominate glass and extend streak against unranked foes
COLUMBIA, Mo. | Championship-caliber teams win in different ways. On Sunday, No. 7 Oklahoma proved balance and toughness still travel.
Behind 23 points and nine rebounds from Raegen Beers and an 18-point performance from Aaliyah Chavez, the Sooners defeated Missouri 84-78 in an SEC showdown that showcased Oklahoma’s depth and dominance on the boards.
Payton Verhulst delivered one of her most complete games of the season, posting 16 points and a season-best 12 rebounds. Sahara Williams added 13 points and nine boards as Oklahoma (23-6, 11-5 SEC) placed four players in double figures and extended its winning streak to 28 straight games against unranked opponents dating back to last season.
Rebounding Edge Tells the Story
While Oklahoma shot a modest 42.1% from the field, the Sooners controlled the paint and the possession battle. OU outrebounded Missouri 54-35 and turned 20 offensive rebounds into 19 second-chance points — a decisive edge in a six-point game.
That physicality proved critical when Missouri made its push.
After trailing 46-43 midway through the third quarter following a Chloe Sotel three-pointer, the Tigers appeared poised to swing momentum. Instead, Oklahoma responded with a 14-0 run over the next four minutes — a surge fueled by defensive stops and relentless work on the glass.
From there, the Sooners never relinquished control.
Missouri’s Fight Falls Short
Missouri (16-15, 4-12 SEC) received a season-best 33-point, 10-rebound performance from Shannon Dowell, who kept the Tigers within striking distance. Grace Slaughter added 15 points, and Missouri capitalized on five Oklahoma turnovers late in the second quarter to trim the halftime deficit to 40-34.
But the Tigers, now riding a six-game losing streak, struggled to match Oklahoma’s physical presence in the final 20 minutes.
SEC Tournament Implications
With the regular season closing, Oklahoma locks in as the No. 5 seed in the SEC Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina. The Sooners will tip off Thursday with NCAA Tournament positioning on the line.
If Sunday’s performance was any indication, Oklahoma enters postseason play with a formula built for March: rebounding, depth and composure under pressure.
