Wildcats open spring test at Long Cove Club against 11 Top-25 teams, including four Top-10 powerhouses
LEXINGTON, Ky. | The spring stretch intensifies for the Kentucky Wildcats women’s golf team as they head to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for one of the most prestigious regular-season tournaments in collegiate golf — the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
The three-day, 54-hole event runs March 2–4 at Long Cove Golf Club (par 71, 6,378 yards) and will be nationally televised on the Golf Channel for the fifth consecutive year, airing live daily from 2:30–5:30 p.m. ET.
Kentucky tees off Monday at 10:20 a.m. ET on Hole No. 10, paired with Duke and Vanderbilt in what promises to be a high-profile opening round grouping.
Elite Field Sets the Stage
The Wildcats are one of 17 teams competing, with 11 ranked inside the Top 25 and four inside the Top 10 nationally. The stacked field includes:
- No. 5 Auburn
- No. 6 Wake Forest
- No. 8 Arkansas
- No. 9 Texas
- No. 12 Duke
- No. 14 Vanderbilt
- No. 15 Ole Miss
- No. 18 South Carolina (host)
- No. 20 Northwestern
- No. 21 Arizona State
- No. 23 Arizona
The field also features SEC contenders Alabama, Georgia and LSU, underscoring the tournament’s reputation as a preview of NCAA Championship-level competition.
Familiar Lineup, Proven Results
Kentucky will rely on a battle-tested lineup: Cathryn Brown, Raleygh Simpson, Anastasia Hekkonen, Karlie Campbell and C.A. Carter. That group has been deployed four times this season and produced three top-three team finishes — a testament to both chemistry and consistency.
Junior standout Cathryn Brown continues to anchor the Wildcats. The Eddyville, Kentucky native carries a team-best 71.7 stroke average across 17 rounds and has recorded four top-10 individual finishes this season. Brown has also contributed 21 consecutive counting rounds toward the team total, highlighting her reliability under pressure.
Momentum Building in the Spring
This marks Kentucky’s third event of the spring season, and the Wildcats enter with steady momentum. UK has participated in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate for four straight seasons, finishing 17th last year at 912 (+60). This season’s squad, however, appears poised for a stronger push against elite competition.
With sunny skies and mid-to-upper 60-degree temperatures forecasted, scoring conditions should be favorable — but Long Cove’s demanding layout will test precision, course management and mental toughness.
Why It Matters
The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate is widely viewed as one of the toughest regular-season stops in women’s college golf. Strong performance this week could significantly bolster Kentucky’s NCAA Regional positioning and national ranking.
For a Wildcats squad that has already demonstrated top-three capability this season, Hilton Head represents opportunity — and a measuring stick against the nation’s best.
Live scoring is available via CLIPPD’s Scoreboard platform, and fans can follow updates through UK Athletics social channels.
