Nelson, Foote Lead the Way on Day Four of SEC Championships

ATHENS | Baylor Nelson earned the Aggies' first medal of the week and Connor Foote took down his second school record of the meet Thursday night at SEC Swimming & Diving Championships inside Gabrielsen Natatorium. The women moved into fifth with 347 points, while the men remain in fifth with 377 points. 

Nelson took home a silver medal in the 400 IM in the first event of the night, clocking in at 3:37.47, just .01 off his school record time to notch an NCAA A-cut in the event. The silver marked the seventh career medal for Nelson at SEC Championships. Three other Aggies added points in the 400 IM final as Munzy Kabbara (3:45.14), Maximiliano Vega Cuevas (3:48.56) and Roberto Bonilla Flores (3:49.49) secured top-24 finishes. 

After setting a new 100 fly program mark  in prelims with a time of 44.43, Foote lowered his record again in the final as he touched the wall at 44.34 to place fourth and pick up his second individual A-cut of the week. Thomas Shomper also posted a career-best time in the 100 fly, going 46.39 to place 21st and move into eighth all-time at A&M. 

Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek added A-final points for the Aggies in the 100 fly and 200 free, respectively. Theall went 51.90 and Stepanek posted a 1:44.92 for a pair of eighth-place finishes. 

Jacob Wimberly closed out the individual events with a 13th-place finish in the 200 free. After lowering his personal-best time in prelims, he went 1:32.86 in the final to post the fifth-fastest time in program history. 

Giulia Goerigk and Hannah O'Leary got the night started in the 400 IM. Goerigk took 10th with a new season-best time of 4:08.13, while O'Leary clocked in at 4:11.89 to lower her personal-best in the event and place 13th.  

Allen Bottego and Rhett Hensley added points for the Aggies on the 1-meter as Bottego secured 10th with a score of 348.00 and Hensley took 17th, posting a score of 301.30.
