Mizzou Softball Splits First Day of Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic


CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. |
No. 22 ranked University of Missouri softball split its opening day of the 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Thursday at the Big League Dreams Complex.

Missouri earned a 1-0 victory over Rutgers at Fenway Park (BLD Complex) before falling to No. 4 UCLA in a top-25 matchup, 4-1, at Wrigley Field (BLD Complex).

With a 1-1 mark on Thursday, Mizzou is now 7-6 in 2025.


No. 22 Missouri 1, Rutgers 0

  • In her first career collegiate start, NCAA active career saves leader and Missouri closer Taylor Pannell picked up her first career complete-game shutout as the Tigers opened their stay at the 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a win.
  • The junior from Lee's Summit, Missouri, pitched a career-best seven innings with seven strikeouts while only allowing four hits. With the win, Pannell improved to 2-2 in 2025.
  • A pinch-hit RBI double in the fifth by freshman Saniya Hill gave Missouri all it needed to clinch the 1-0 victory. Madison Uptegrove knocked a one-out basehit and took second on a wild pitch to set the stage for Hill's two-out gamewinner.
  • For Hill, a Godley, Texas, native, the double and the RBI were the first in her career at Missouri.
  • Julia Crenshaw and Taylor Ebbs each had hits in the win for Mizzou.
  • Ebbs is currently on a five-game hit streak. She now has 97 hits in her collegiate career.

No. 4 UCLA 4, No. 22 Missouri 1

  • MU then dropped the night cap to UCLA, 4-1, to conclude the opening day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
  • The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second before adding consecutive solo homers in the sixth to secure the win.
  • Missouri cut the deficit to 2-1 on an RBI sacrifice fly from Madison Walker.
  • Claire Cahalan notched a career-best matching (third time in her career) two hits (2-for-3) Thursday. She has three hits over her last three games.
  • Crenshaw knocked a double in the sixth for her 100th career hit.
  • Hill added her second hit in as many games and started at designated player (first career start). She now has three hits over her last four appearances. Hill is currently on a four-game reached base streak.
  • Haidyn Sokoloski notched a walk in her first career start (left field) at Missouri.
  • Marissa McCann (3-1) pitched 5.1 innings in the start, allowing four runs on nine hits with a trio of strikeouts.
  • Nathalie Touchet came on in relief for the final two outs in the sixth, not allowing a run.

Mizzou will continue the 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Friday with a pair of games, both featured on FloCollege ($).

Missouri will first face Baylor at noon, CT before a 2:30 p.m., CT meeting with Minnesota. Both games will be contested on Yankee Stadium at the Big League Dreams Complex.
