Auburn Volleyball: Chambless, Havlicek Power Tigers Past Samford in Four Sets

Greer Chambless delivers 15 kills while Grace Havlicek posts a career-high 10 as Auburn withstands Samford’s third-set rally

AUBURN, Ala. | Greer Chambless had 15 kills and Grace Havlicek delivered a career-high 10 as Auburn defeated Samford in four sets, 25-18, 28-26, 20-25, 25-20.

Chambless hit .353 on 34 attacks, while Havlicek added seven blocks and six digs. Havlicek saved her best offensive stretch for the fourth set, recording six kills on eight attacks as the Tigers closed out the match.

Belle Patrick added 11 kills off the bench, giving Auburn four players with double-digit kills. Emily Keiran led the defense with a career-high 18 digs.

AUBURN TAKES CONTROL EARLY

Auburn jumped ahead 10-3 in the opening set behind consecutive kills from Chambless.

Samford cut the deficit to four, but Auburn capitalized on Bulldog errors and pulled ahead 20-15. Havlicek contributed a kill and a block as the Tigers finished on a 4-1 run for a 25-18 win.

Chambless had four kills in the opening set, while Reese Shugart added three kills, two blocks and two aces.

Samford responded with a 7-4 advantage early in the second before consecutive Chambless kills completed a 6-2 Auburn run and pushed the Tigers in front.

AUBURN SOCCER BLANKS OLE MISS 3-0 FOR FIRST SEC WIN

Tigers allow no shots on goal as Brown, Ivey and Husbands score in dominant SEC home victory

AUBURN, Ala. | Auburn held Ole Miss without a shot on goal and got goals from Gracie Brown, Grace Ivey and Kennedy Husbands in a 3-0 victory Friday night at the Auburn Soccer Complex.

The Tigers (5-1-3, 1-0-1 SEC) earned their first Southeastern Conference win of the season and posted their seventh shutout in nine matches.

“It’s a big three points with a clean sheet,” Auburn coach James Armstrong said. “We talked to the girls about having to earn the victory, and I think we did that tonight with our effort.”

AUBURN BUILDS EARLY LEAD

Brown opened the scoring with her second goal of the season, converting off a corner kick.

Ivey doubled the lead six minutes later, finishing a ball played in by Layla Sirdah. It marked the second straight meeting with Ole Miss in which the senior scored.

Auburn entered the match as one of eight teams nationally with at least 70 corner kicks this season and continued to make its set pieces count. The Tigers generated eight corners against the Rebels and scored twice from them.
