Former top-90 national recruit and Virginia Tech standout Mila Mulready brings Power Four experience, doubles success, and championship potential to Maryland Women’s Tennis.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. | Maryland Women’s Tennis has strengthened its roster for the 2026-27 campaign with the addition of former Virginia Tech standout Mila Mulready, a talented junior transfer whose arrival adds experience, versatility, and depth to the Terrapins lineup.
The 20-year-old California native joins Maryland after spending the past two seasons with the Hokies, where she competed regularly against some of the nation's top collegiate tennis programs. Her signing represents another important addition to the Terrapins program, which is looking to elevate its standing within the highly competitive Big Ten Conference.
Mulready arrives in College Park with a pedigree that extends well beyond her collegiate accomplishments. Prior to beginning her college career, she was recognized as one of the premier junior players in the country, earning a five-star rating from TennisRecruiting.com while climbing into the national top 90 and ranking among California's top 10 prospects.
Proven Experience at the Power Conference Level
During her sophomore season at Virginia Tech, Mulready appeared in every dual match for the Hokies, demonstrating both consistency and durability throughout the year.
She recorded singles victories against SMU and Florida State while competing primarily on Court 3, a position often tasked with facing some of the strongest players in opposing lineups.
Mulready also made a significant impact in doubles competition, partnering with Linda Ziets-Segura on Court 2 to collect seven victories during the season.
Her ability to contribute in both singles and doubles formats provides Maryland with valuable lineup flexibility entering the new campaign.
Former Elite Recruit Brings High Ceiling
Before arriving in Blacksburg, Mulready built an impressive reputation on the national junior tennis circuit.
As a five-star recruit, she established herself as one of the country's most highly regarded prospects, combining technical skill, court awareness, and competitive toughness that attracted attention from multiple Division I programs.
Her success in California's highly competitive junior tennis environment helped prepare her for the transition to collegiate competition and remains a key reason Maryland believes her best tennis is still ahead.
Terrapins Continue Building for the Future
The addition of Mulready reflects Maryland's commitment to strengthening its roster through both recruiting and the transfer portal.
With experience competing in high-pressure conference matches and a proven ability to contribute immediately, Mulready is expected to play an important role as the Terrapins pursue greater success in one of the nation's toughest tennis conferences.
Her arrival also brings leadership qualities developed over two seasons of Division I competition, providing younger players with a veteran presence capable of elevating the program's culture and competitive standards.
Opportunity for a Breakout Season
For Mulready, the move to Maryland represents an opportunity for a fresh start and an expanded role.
After gaining valuable experience at Virginia Tech, she now joins a Terrapins squad eager to make noise within the Big Ten and on the national stage.
The combination of elite junior credentials, Power Four experience, and proven doubles success makes Mulready one of Maryland's most intriguing additions heading into the 2026-27 season.
If she continues the trajectory that once made her one of California's top recruits, the Terrapins may have secured one of the more impactful transfer additions in women's college tennis this offseason.
As Maryland prepares for the upcoming campaign, all eyes will be on whether Mulready can transform her potential into a breakthrough season and help lead the next chapter of Terrapins Women's Tennis.
