Former USC Star and NCAA Singles Semifinalist Gives Gators Another Major Addition as Program Eyes National Championship Contention
Egypt Native Brings All-America Credentials, Elite National Ranking, and Proven Big-Match Experience to Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. | Florida Women's Tennis continues to build one of the nation's most formidable rosters.
Fresh off a season that reestablished the Gators among college tennis' elite programs, Florida announced the addition of All-American transfer Jana Hossam, a move that further elevates a recruiting class already ranked eighth nationally entering the 2026-27 campaign.
The addition of Hossam, one of the nation's most accomplished collegiate players, gives head coach Per Nilsson another proven weapon as the Gators seek to challenge for SEC and NCAA championships.
A rising junior and former standout at USC, Hossam arrives in Gainesville with an impressive rΓ©sumΓ© that includes ITA All-America honors, a deep NCAA Tournament run, and extensive experience competing against the nation's top players.
All-American Talent Arrives in Gainesville
Hossam quickly established herself as one of the premier players in college tennis during her two seasons with the Trojans.
The Alexandria, Egypt native spent much of the 2025-26 season occupying USC's No. 1 singles position and climbed as high as No. 16 in the national rankings before finishing the year ranked No. 25.
Her collegiate record speaks for itself.
Hossam compiled a 46-21 career singles record at USC while posting a 41-22 doubles mark. During the 2025-26 campaign alone, 10 of her 24 singles victories came against nationally ranked opponents, demonstrating her ability to perform on the sport's biggest stages.
Her most notable accomplishment came during the fall season when she advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Individual Singles Championship, earning ITA All-America honors and cementing her status as one of the nation's elite competitors.
In doubles competition, Hossam and partner Lily Fairclough climbed as high as No. 32 nationally, showcasing the versatility Florida hopes will immediately impact both singles and doubles lineups.
Florida's Roster Reload Continues
The Gators' latest acquisition comes at an ideal time.
Florida finished the 2025-26 season ranked No. 18 nationally and enters next season with significant continuity. The program lost only two players to graduation — India Houghton and Xinyi Nong — while returning much of the core that fueled its resurgence.
The roster will also receive a boost from Scarlett Nicholson, a former top-20 national singles player who becomes eligible after sitting out the spring season due to NCAA transfer regulations.
Combined with Hossam's arrival, Florida suddenly possesses one of the deepest and most experienced rosters in the SEC.
The move reflects a growing trend across college athletics, where strategic use of the transfer portal has become a key component in building championship-caliber teams.
Top-10 Recruiting Class Adds International Firepower
Even before Hossam's commitment, Florida's future appeared bright.
According to TennisRecruiting.net's latest rankings, the Gators currently boast the nation's No. 8 recruiting class for 2026.
Leading that group is blue-chip recruit Capucine Jauffret, one of the highest-rated American prospects in the class.
A product of the prestigious ICL Academy in Delaware, Jauffret was ranked as high as No. 4 nationally among recruits and has already claimed three ITF junior titles. She also reached the finals of the USTA National Indoor Championships and climbed to No. 47 in the ITF World Junior Rankings.
Tennis excellence runs deep in her family.
Her grandfather holds the record for the most appearances representing France in Davis Cup competition, playing 35 times between 1964 and 1978.
Joining Jauffret is United Kingdom standout Allegra Korpanec Davies.
One of Europe's most accomplished junior players, Korpanec Davies owns seven ITF junior titles and has climbed as high as No. 49 in the ITF World Junior Rankings. She currently holds a WTA singles ranking of No. 858 and carries a UTR rating of 10.57.
Together, the pair provide Florida with international talent capable of making an immediate impact.
Championship Aspirations Growing in Gainesville
The combination of returning veterans, high-profile transfers, and elite recruits has transformed Florida into one of the most intriguing programs entering the 2026-27 season.
With Hossam bringing All-America credentials and proven success against top-ranked competition, the Gators now possess a roster capable of competing with the nation's traditional powers.
The addition also sends a strong message throughout college tennis: Florida intends to be a major player in the national championship race.
As the SEC continues to establish itself as one of the toughest conferences in collegiate tennis, the Gators appear poised to take another significant step forward.
For a program seeking its next NCAA title, Jana Hossam may prove to be the missing piece that elevates Florida from contender to championship favorite.
