At the Beverly Hilton on May 8, music icons unite to honor landmark recordings, with George Clinton, Norah Jones, and Josh Groban among performers celebrating industry-defining albums.
The Grammy Hall of Fame Gala is shaping up to be one of the most consequential nights on the 2026 music calendar, as Janet Jackson prepares to make a highly anticipated appearance and Erykah Badu joins an already stacked performance roster.
Set for May 8 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, the gala will celebrate 14 newly inducted recordings into the Hall of Fame—an eclectic class that underscores the breadth and cultural impact of modern music history.
Jackson’s appearance will commemorate the induction of her socially conscious landmark album Rhythm Nation 1984, a project that helped redefine pop’s intersection with activism and visual storytelling. Widely regarded as one of her most influential works, the album’s inclusion signals its enduring relevance in today’s cultural and political climate.
Meanwhile, Badu is slated to perform alongside funk pioneer George Clinton and Blackbyrd McKnight in a tribute to Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain, a seminal psychedelic soul record whose influence continues to ripple through contemporary music.
The evening’s performances will span genres and generations. Norah Jones, recipient of the Ray Charles Architect of Sound Award, joins a lineup that includes Josh Groban and Teddy Swims, who will participate in a tribute to Warner Records—this year’s Visionary of Music Award honoree.
Additional highlights include performances by Lucinda Williams revisiting Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, and Taylor Hanson honoring Nick Drake’s Pink Moon. Gospel legends Take 6 will also deliver a tribute to the Soul Stirrers’ “Jesus Gave Me Water,” reinforcing the ceremony’s cross-genre scope.
Hosted by Anthony Mason, the gala will induct recordings that range from hip-hop milestones like 2Pac’s All Eyez on Me to alternative touchstones such as Radiohead’s OK Computer. Latin pop icon Selena’s Amor Prohibido and jazz innovator Alice Coltrane’s Journey in Satchidananda are also among the inductees, reflecting a global and genre-spanning legacy.
Beyond celebration, the event arrives at a moment when legacy artists and catalog music are playing an increasingly strategic role in the global entertainment economy. As streaming platforms and geopolitical shifts reshape distribution and audience reach, the preservation and recognition of culturally significant works have taken on renewed importance.
With a lineup that bridges eras, genres, and cultural movements, the 2026 Grammy Hall of Fame Gala is poised to deliver both nostalgia and forward-looking relevance—an industry snapshot of where music has been and where it’s headed next.
