🏀 Warhawks Rally Early but Fade Late: AUM Drops Final Road Game to West Alabama, 79-62

Brooks’ 26-Point Effort, Flatgard’s Five Threes Not Enough as Tigers Pull Away in Second Half

LIVINGSTON, Ala. |
The AUM Warhawks closed out their final road game of the season with a hard-fought effort but ultimately fell 79-62 to the West Alabama Tigers inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Auburn University at Montgomery moves to 3-23 overall and 3-17 in Gulf South Conference play, while West Alabama improves to 13-11 (11-10 GSC).

Fast Start Fuels Early Lead

The Warhawks came out with urgency, setting the tone early behind Samya Brooks, who opened the scoring and sparked a 6-0 run. AUM controlled the tempo in the first quarter, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and perimeter shooting.

Andie Flatgard connected on two three-pointers in the opening frame as AUM built a commanding 17-9 lead after one quarter, showcasing disciplined shot selection and strong defensive rotations.

Momentum Swings Before Halftime

West Alabama chipped away at the lead in the second quarter, tightening the game at the free-throw line before taking its first lead midway through the period. The Tigers surged late, stretching the advantage to 37-31 at halftime despite Flatgard’s third triple of the night in the closing seconds.

Tigers’ 10-0 Run Proves Decisive

The Warhawks responded in the third quarter with aggressive play in transition. A fast-break three from Flatgard cut the deficit to one, and Brooks’ interior scoring helped tie the contest at 40-40.

However, West Alabama answered with a pivotal 10-0 run that shifted the game’s trajectory. Despite Flatgard’s fourth three-pointer and continued production from Brooks and Nevaeh Small, AUM entered the final quarter trailing 56-47.

Fourth Quarter Pull-Away

Brooks continued to battle, finishing with 26 points and nine rebounds on 10-of-17 shooting, while Flatgard added 17 points, five made three-pointers, and four assists. Small contributed 15 points and eight rebounds, anchoring AUM’s presence inside.

But West Alabama extended its lead to as many as 20 points in the closing minutes, sealing the 79-62 victory.

  • Field Goal Percentage: 34.9% (22-of-63)
  • Three-Point Shooting: 23.8% (5-of-21)
  • Free Throws: 81.3% (13-of-16)
  • Points in the Paint: 22
  • Second-Chance Points: 17
  • Points Off Turnovers: 19

Despite strong rebounding and second-chance production, the Warhawks were outpaced by West Alabama’s efficiency during critical scoring runs.
