AUM’s Ashley Nelson Cracks Top Five at Newberry Invitational, Leading Warhawks to Strong Finish in Georgia

Junior standout Ashley Nelson continues her breakout season with a Top 5 individual finish at the Harbor Club Golf Course, as Auburn University at Montgomery women’s golf team ties for 9th overall.

GREENSBORO, GA |
The Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks women’s golf team wrapped up a determined performance at the Newberry Women’s Fall Invitational, hosted by Newberry College at the scenic Harbor Club Golf Course in Greensboro, Georgia.

The Warhawks finished tied for 9th place with a two-round team total of 690 (+114), while junior Ashley Nelson stole the spotlight, becoming the first AUM golfer to secure a Top 5 individual finish in the event’s history.

Nelson posted a two-round total of 156 (+9), tying for third place with five birdies and one eagle across 36 holes — a standout performance that underscored her growing reputation as one of the most consistent players in the Gulf South Conference.

“Ashley showed incredible composure under pressure,” said AUM Head Coach [Insert Name]. “Her ability to stay focused and execute her game plan was a major factor in our team’s success this week.”

The team title went to Coker University, which shot a two-round total of 641 (+65), while Coker’s Giselse Morna claimed the individual crown after edging out the field down the stretch.

Other strong performances for the Warhawks included:

  • Hailey Westmoreland: tied for 35th, finishing at 177 (+33) with one birdie.
  • Georgia Cater: placed 38th at 178 (+34), also recording a birdie.
  • Aubrie Medford: finished 39th with a 179 (+35) in the two-round total.

Nelson’s top-five finish marks a pivotal milestone for the AUM women’s golf program, signaling continued improvement and competitiveness on the regional stage.

The Warhawks will return to the fairways October 27–28, competing in the Converse Fall Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina, as they look to build on the momentum from their Georgia outing.
