The No. 2 Auburn equestrian team earned four SEC Rider of the Year honors and had 12 Tigers awarded by the Southeastern Conference for their efforts this season as the league announced postseason awards Monday.
AUBURN, Ala. | The No. 2 Auburn equestrian team earned four SEC Rider of the Year honors and had 12 Tigers awarded by the Southeastern Conference for their efforts this season as the league announced postseason awards Monday.
“I’m really proud of our student-athletes for being recognized by the conference,” head coach Jessica Braswell said. “Having four of the eight Rider of the Year awards shows how much talent we have in the upperclassmen and freshmen. Auburn was also well represented across the All-SEC teams with the most honorees in the conference.”
Auburn won two Rider of the Year awards as well as two Freshman Rider of the Year accolades. In addition, Auburn’s 12 student-athletes totaled 15 All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman honors.
Sophomore Avery Glynn has had an outstanding year in Fences for the Tigers and was named the SEC Fences Rider of the Year. This is Auburn’s seventh consecutive award in the event.
Glynn, a Petaluma, California native, stands at 12-0-0 overall in Fences and finished the regular season with a 5-0-0 mark vs. SEC opponents. She has earned three Most Outstanding Performer honors this year, including being named the Fences MOP in the SEC Semifinal match up. She has two scores in the 90s this year and was named NCEA and SEC Rider of the Month in March for her efforts in the event.
In addition, Glynn was placed on the All-SEC team in Fences.
Junior Alexia Tordoff, of Powell, Ohio, earned SEC Horsemanship Rider of the Year after putting together a big season for the squad. She holds a 12-2-0 record in the event and went 5-1-0 vs. SEC opponents in the regular season. She has four MOPs this year and tied a career-best 78.5 on the road in November.
Overall, Tordoff has averaged a 75.4 this season and was SEC Horsemanship Rider of the Month twice. She was also placed on the All-SEC team for her efforts.
Freshman Michelle Fumagalli earned Freshman Rider of the Year in Reining, having an 8-6-0 record in the event. The Scottsdale, Arizona product had three wins in SEC competition this season and reached a career-high 72 in November. She was also placed on the Freshman All-SEC team for her efforts in Reining.
Freshman Kate Hagerty secured Freshman Rider of the Year in Fences for the Tigers as well as All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman in Fences. She holds a 9-1-0 mark in the event and went 5-0-0 vs. SEC opponents in the regular season. Her three MOPs this year were all against league opponents and she was a perfect 4-0-0 on the road in Fences.
Senior Mary-Grace Segars was placed on both the Fences and Flat All-SEC teams for the Tigers. The Canton, Georgia product is 10-4-0 in Fences and 9-4-1 on the Flat so far this season. She reached a career-high 93 in Fences in February and had two MOPs in the event. She added one MOP on the Flat for the Tigers.
Fifth year Ellie Ferrigno was placed on the All-SEC Fences team for the fourth-straight season. The Newtown, Connecticut native is 10-3-0 overall in the event with a 5-1-0 record vs. the SEC.
Joining Tordoff on the All-SEC Horsemanship team was junior Caroline Fredenburg and sophomore Brooke Jolstad.
Jolstad, of Lakewood, Colorado, holds an 8-4-2 record with a 5-1-0 record vs. the SEC. She scored a career-high 77.5 vs. Georgia in the spring, earning MOP.
Junior Caroline Buchanan was placed on the All-SEC team for her efforts in Reining as the Scottsdale, Arizona product is 8-6-0 in the event with two MOPs. She reached a career-high 73.5 on two occasions this year.
Freshmen Ariana Marnell and Sadie Berkhout each earned SEC All-Freshman honors for their performances on the Flat. Both earned seven starts in the event as Marnell reached a career-high 85 on the road at Texas A&M and Berkhout had four scores in the 80s.
Freshman Catie Reachard secured a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team for Reining, competing for the Tigers eight times. She reached a career-best 73 on the road for the team.
